Morningstar for Advisor iPad App Celebrates Birthday with an Upgrade


To mark the first anniversary of the launch of the Morningstar for Advisor iPad App, Morningstar delivered a major upgrade of the app to advisors. The app is included in the subscription price of Morningstar Office. The initial release of the app last year provided advisors with a client centric app which allowed them to review client information when away from the office and to present information on the iPad to a client during live meetings. This original version was very well received, garnering a 4.5 rating on the Apple App store.

This new version enhances the client centric features of the original version, and it adds new functionality as well. A new dashboard gives advisors access to the three areas of the app: The Markets, the Practice, and Clients & Portfolios. Advisors can also access support from the dashboard, as well as a search tool.

Much of the new functionality centers around the new practice summary. This view provides the advisor with consolidated reports and other information that is essential for running an efficient practice. This information is for internal use, not for use with clients.

Morningstar OfficeSM and RiXtrema Integrate: Seamless Portfolio Crash Testing to Benefit Platform Users


RiXtrema announced that it is now integrated with Morningstar OfficeSM, Morningstar’s practice and portfolio management system for financial advisors. Now, dual clients of RiXtrema and Morningstar will be able to pull any account or portfolio directly into Portfolio Crash Testing without having to do any manual document or data uploading. RiXtrema’s Portfolio Crash Testing 2.0 monitors both the risk in portfolios as well as the client’s risk tolerance, and will alert the advisor if risk in the account is diverging from the risk tolerance profile.

Quite a few people at the recently concluded eMoney Summit were surprised to hear that eMoney and PIEtech, Inc., the developer of MoneyGuidePro had agreed to integrate MoneyGuidePro’s financial engine within the eMoney Select system. I must confess that I was surprised that they were surprised.  Many industry insiders have been aware for that eMoney and MoneyGuidePro produced a similar integration for SunTrust some time ago. Figuring out how to integrate the two platforms was most likely the difficult part. Figuring out that many others would like a similar combination should have been the easy part. The devil, of course, is in the details, so bringing the joint offering to market for a wide audience took longer than one would have expected.
